Live music in Malta leans classical — chamber recitals, orchestral concerts and opera — alongside jazz nights and touring electronic acts.
The single biggest source of live music on the island is Teatru Manoel in Valletta, which programmes the largest share of concerts listed here: Mozart, Schumann and Pergolesi performed in one of Europe's oldest working theatres. Teatru Salesjan in Sliema adds a steady second stream.
Concerts also take place in buildings that aren't primarily concert halls. St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta and Verdala Palace in Siġġiewi both host performances where the setting is as much the draw as the programme. Away from the classical side, the listings pick up jazz nights — the JazzKlabb series runs regularly — and international artists playing club and outdoor spaces.
