Bodyterranean

Bodyterranean is an innovative group comprised of Greek and Italian artists under the direction of Simone Mongelli that celebrates the human body as the most fundamental sound-making tool. The show dissolves distinctions between music, song, movement, and theatrical performance. It communicates through the physical language of bodily cadence, conveyed via vocal and kinetic expression. For this Malta presentation, the ensemble welcomes two prominent local vocalists—Doreen Galea and Mariele Zammit—who contribute their voices to weave collaborative narratives. Bodyterranean fuses age-old Mediterranean musical heritage with contemporary expression; melodies transform into motion and pulse. Through their bodies and voices, performers convey narratives spanning love, displacement, parenthood, pluralism, celebration, and hardship—experiences that transcend all human populations and cultural boundaries. The stripped-back, unadorned songs—presented in their most elementary state—communicate narratives that dissolve boundaries while advocating for human rights and tranquility.
