🎭 Theatre in Malta
Malta's theatre programme centres on Teatru Manoel in Valletta, with drama, opera, dance and musicals staged there and at venues across the island.
Teatru Manoel accounts for most of the theatre listed here. Built in 1731, it is among the oldest working theatres in Europe, and it programmes a full season rather than occasional productions — recent and upcoming listings run from Oscar Wilde's Salomé to The Full Monty, La Bohème and Mozart's The Magic Flute, which gives a fair sense of the range.
Teatru Salesjan in Sliema is the other regular source, and Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier in Valletta carries the more experimental end — contemporary dance, devised work and physical theatre.
The Manoel announces a numbered season each year — over fifty productions across it — running from autumn through to the summer, with work staged in both English and Maltese.
