Spinning Yarn

Heritage Malta is organizing 'Spinning Yarn', scheduled for Saturday, 19th September 2026, between 11:00am and 1:00pm, at the Gran Castello Historic House within the Ċittadella in Gozo. This event marks the global celebration of Worldwide Spin in Public Day, observed internationally on the third Saturday of each September. Attendees will explore the time-honoured practice of transforming sheep's wool into yarn through demonstration and participation. A proficient spinner will showcase traditional techniques using a vintage spinning wheel, while visitors can engage in foundational spinning methods using a drop spindle and retain their completed work. An interactive question-and-answer segment will be conducted in both Maltese and English. Spaces are limited, making advance registration mandatory. Youngsters aged under 15 require adult supervision; one accompanying grown-up receives complimentary entry as part of the child ticket price. Advance tickets are available through online reservation or can be secured at any Heritage Malta venue or museum.
