Mdina, Malta's former capital, is known as the Silent City because it empties almost completely after dark. It doesn't host many events, but the ones it does are genuinely atmospheric: candlelit evenings inside the medieval walls, small concerts and art shows in spaces that have barely changed in centuries. And with or without an event, Mdina rewards a wander.
