Revisiting the Excavations of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra

This presentation traces the archaeological work conducted at the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra megalithic complexes, starting from the initial clearance undertaken in 1839/1840 and continuing through later excavations at these remarkable Neolithic structures. Drawing on archival materials such as historic photographs, site surveys, and excavation documentation, the session will examine how successive research efforts have deepened our comprehension of both locations. The discussion will also address how accumulated insights from these investigations assist the on-site curator in preserving, interpreting, and maintaining these significant Late Neolithic monuments. Hosted at the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Visitor Centre, the presentation will be conducted in English by site curator Christian Mintoff. Attendees should arrive by 6:45pm for a 7:00pm start.
