Autumn Equinox
From September 21st through 23rd, the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park will host an Autumn Equinox celebration showcasing a spectacular solar phenomenon. During this period, the sun rises in perfect alignment with Mnajdra's southern megalithic temple, demonstrating the sophisticated astronomical knowledge possessed by ancient peoples. For agricultural communities without written calendars, such celestial observations were essential for determining optimal times to sow and harvest their crops. Those wishing to experience this phenomenon should arrive at 6 am at the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Visitor Centre entrance. To guarantee the best conditions for all observers, attendance is capped at 30 participants daily. Following the sunrise observation at Mnajdra, guests will also be able to visit the adjacent Ħaġar Qim complex.
