Żejt iż-Żejtun
Every October, the town of Żejtun hosts this beloved weekend celebration dedicated to its olive-growing heritage and agricultural legacy. The festival's name derives from the Maltese term for olives, and admission is complimentary for all visitors. Throughout the festive days, you'll encounter colorful street processions featuring traditional musicians (għannejja) and performers, alongside decorative horse carts laden with the season's olive bounty destined for pressing facilities. The grounds fill with vendors offering regional cuisine, opportunities to sample locally-produced olive oil, handmade goods, and warm traditional Maltese loaves. Visitors gain exclusive access to tour significant buildings, farming displays, and architectural features including the bell tower and underground chamber of St. Catherine's Parish Church. A cherished Sunday custom invites community members to gather with their beloved animals—both domestic pets and livestock—for a special blessing ceremony.
