Write like an Egyptian
Bring your family to the National Museum of Archaeology on Saturday, 28th November, for 'Write like an Egyptian', a participatory workshop offered through Heritage Malta's Student Passport Programme. During this engaging session, families will delve into the captivating realm of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic writing. Together, parents and children will investigate the significance of shabti figurines in burial customs and examine how the texts carved onto them reveal insights into the religious worldview and conceptions of the afterlife held by ancient Egyptians. The activity begins with an escorted viewing of 'Living for Eternity: The Ancient Egyptians' exhibition, then transitions into interactive learning. Attendees will investigate how Egyptian script functioned—with symbols serving as phonetic elements, complete words, or abstract concepts—and practice inscribing their own names in this ancient system. The experience culminates in a creative component where participants craft their own shabti from clay and carve their name onto it using techniques inspired by ancient Egyptian artistry. Two seatings are available, operating from 13:00 to 14:30 and
