Seafaring in Prehistory (FULLY BOOKED)
The Student Summer Programme includes this activity scheduled for 30th July at 9:00am at Ħal Tarxien Prehistoric Complex, welcoming children aged 8 and above to participate in Seafaring in Prehistory. During this interactive session, young participants will explore Malta's ancient maritime heritage, investigating the methods early inhabitants employed to traverse the seas. The programme delves into the significance of historic ship graffiti—carved representations of boats that offer crucial windows into Malta's seafaring traditions. Through involvement in the Ship Graffiti Project, children will examine how these ancient markings enhance knowledge of Malta's submerged archaeological legacy. The activity concludes with a practical artistic component where participants will paint sails using ochre pigment, drawing inspiration from the pigments and methods that prehistoric seafarers may have employed. Registration costs €10 per child, with one adult included in this price. Online ticket booking is available here or
