Portraits without mirrors

As part of the Student Summer Programme, children six years and older can join Portraits without Mirrors on July 23rd between 10:00am and 11:30am at the Grand Master's Palace. During this hands-on creative session, young participants will examine historical portraits of Malta's former rulers and discover the deliberate ways these leaders presented themselves publicly. Following an interpretive tour and group conversation, children will reflect on how identity, authority, and visual representation are developed, then contemplate their own self-image and how they wish others to perceive them. Drawing inspiration from the palace setting and its artworks, attendees will engage in an entertaining portrait-creation exercise and finish by producing their own modern self-portrait. The cost is €10 per child, with one adult admission included. Bookings are available through the Heritage Malta website or at Heritage Malta locations.
