Maestrissimo

On Saturday, 4th October 2025, Teatru Manoel in Valletta will host two performances at 6pm and 10pm as part of Notte Bianca, Malta's premier annual festival celebrating arts and culture. Coordinated by Festivals Malta, this free public event transforms Valletta's streets, squares, churches, government buildings, and cultural institutions into performance spaces on the first Saturday of each October. Throughout the evening, the city showcases live music, theatrical performances, and concerts, with numerous dining establishments staying open late to accommodate visitors. Maestrissimo takes the stage for both showings, presenting a 90-minute production that merges chamber music with comedic theatre and historical commentary. Created in the distinctive Yllana style, the performance follows a talented but overlooked musician in a string ensemble during the Baroque and Neoclassical periods, as he strives to gain recognition and ascend the ranks of a rigid musical hierarchy. Can his exceptional gifts enable him to achieve prominence as a maestrissimo? Entry is complimentary with no advance reservation necessary. The festival receives backing from the Ministry for Culture, Lands and Local Government, alongside partnerships with Coca Cola, Vibe FM, and European Heritage Days.
