Ġewż, Lewż, Qastan, Tin Cook-Along Session
Heritage Malta welcomes children aged 7 and up to spend a warm Saturday morning on November 7th at the Inquisitor's Palace in Birgu, combining baking, science, and cultural traditions in celebration of St Martin's Feast. The morning begins with an introduction to the story of St Martin of Tours – a compassionate Roman soldier known for tearing his cloak in half to help someone in need – and how this tale of generosity has shaped enduring Maltese customs still practiced today. Following this, young bakers will engage in a practical baking workshop to create Torta ta' San Martin, the traditional Maltese pastry linked to this festival. Through preparing this seasonal delicacy, participants will learn how culinary traditions serve as bridges to our heritage and how recipes shared across generations foster community bonds. While their creations are in the oven, children will participate in an engaging science activity that demonstrates the intersection of scientific principles and time-honoured customs in creating something tasty.
