(FULLY BOOKED) Ftira Cookalong
As part of the Student Summer Programme, a special workshop is scheduled for July 18th between 10:00am and 11:30am at the Inquisitor's Palace. Young learners aged 8 and above will engage in an interactive session devoted to Malta's cherished traditional bread, the ftira. Within the historic setting of the palace, children will explore the rich cultural background and age-old customs connected to this celebrated Maltese classic while mastering the skills needed to bake it. Working alongside skilled educators, attendees will observe a live demonstration followed by crafting their own ftira with time-honoured ingredients and fillings such as kunserva (tomato concentrate), bigilla (fava bean spread), and other traditional toppings. The programme also includes a hands-on science activity that illustrates the role of yeast in bread production. By engaging in activities like combining, working the dough, and flavouring, young participants will develop a richer understanding of Maltese food culture in an enjoyable and engaging environment.
