A Baroque Knight’s Table
What did the Knights of St John eat? How did religion dictate what could appear on their tables? And how did ingredients from distant corners of the world find their way into the kitchens of Baroque Malta? For one extraordinary evening, KulStoria invites you to step back in time and take your place at a table inspired by the age of the Knights of St John. Set within the atmospheric walls of Bir Mula Heritage Museum, a centuries-old historic house in Bormla, this intimate dining experience brings together food, history and storytelling in a setting steeped in Malta's past. As you settle around the table, a succession of specially prepared courses will take you on a culinary journey through Baroque Malta. Inspired by historical sources and interpreted for contemporary palates, each dish offers a glimpse into the tastes, traditions and surprising influences that shaped the island's food culture. Discover a world of contrasts: the lavish feasts of Grand Masters and noble households, the humble fare of ordinary Maltese families, and the strict religious observances that governed what could be eaten and when. Hear fascinating stories of hunting and hospitality, fasting and feasting, and the extraordinary journeys of ingredients that reached Malta through the Knights' international connections. From the arrival of exotic flavours to the influence of European cooks and culinary traditions, every course has a story to tell. The menu remains a surprise, allowing the evening to unfold through a succession of flavours, discoveries and conversations. This is not a formal history lecture, but a relaxed and convivial gathering where the past comes alive around the dining table. The evening concludes with traditional Maltese coffee and one final story. An experience for curious travellers, history enthusiasts and food lovers looking to discover a different side of Malta. Places are strictly limited to preserve the intimate atmosphere, and advance booking is essential. Come hungry. Curiosity is equally recommended.
